2903 Final Reflection - Community Service

1- Organization:-

I have a chance to volunteer at The Future Center in Abu Dhabi, which its center for the special needs. It’s have a lots of different types and kinds of disabilities that they care about them and can help them to provision a nice life style.

2- The best part of volunteer:-

I get the one of my best time in my life in the Future center, there is more than best time you can remember it. Firstly, when I came to the center and it’s my first time they welcomed me like I am not different to them and they were happy that I’ll be with them for a one month. Also they share me their breakfast, and a little of their feeling about their teacher and the center. The best part for me to volunteer is that they are so happy, and they take the life easy, no matter what they are, and they don’t think that they are different to other children and they feel that they don’t have any obstruction and they are normal people.

3- Support the community:-

Its incentive and encouragement for the people to show them that it’s nice to volunteer in all places. Also it’s given the others a chance to try and have new experience from volunteering and help them in their life. Know more about the special needs and theirs disabilities.

4- All I learned:-

I learned a lot of things since I went to the center for the special needs. For example, I learn how to treat the people those have disabilities and give them special care. Also I learn how to know that if the person has a disability or he is a normal person. I can control myself while talking to them or working to them because they have difficult to get you in fast way. Its teach me how to control it with the all people by working with them. They teach me how matter how the life its hard and difficult, just see it in positive way and smile to others, because your smile show how you see the people throw it . they give me a way to see the life and how they are.

Here is the Interview with Ms. Angom

she welcome me to her office and i told her i will ask you question because we have interview .

first of all , i ask her why she choose this job as a teacher for special needs, and why ?

Ms. Angom : it is very rewording , i got a chance to teach a child who was straggling, i use to be a main teacher and then there was a child straggling he cant learn and i use defense strategies to teach him so he learn it. i relies that there are a lot of children like him needs help and find difficult to learn in traditional way , so i get interested and i stay follow it until now and im very happy.

Me : it a hard job or no , and why ?

Ms Angom : its a hard job in the seance you need to be creative because each child is different than others because each child have different disabilities , and we can teach them according how they can learn , i call it more challenging for us to give more for them.

Me : so you need more patience ?

Ms. Angom : you need a lot of patience , because you sometimes you get federated that when u teach a child and he is slow in understanding, and sometimes you learn them and they forget, you must control your self , you should control your self with them , so patience is important.

Me : How many students graduate from these center ?

Ms. Angom : when we started in year 2000, there were 50 students, now there are 195 this year , every year the number of students is growing up.

Me : when they finish from here and graduate they can have a job ?

Ms. Angom : yes, many of are students is skilled, they can had job , we teach them for that and trained them , not all of them can work and get job, actually 8 or 9 of our students graduate and now they are working in hotels , and good companies and their employees are very happy.

Me : how can they help them in the community ?

Ms. Angom : first, people in the community must believe that people in special need have skill and some qualities and they can help and work , and the must important thing is to treat them like they are human like us , no different between us and them.

At day nine , they learn how to make vegetable salad , they must know the kind of vegetables and the color and the name of each kind. then hot to wash it and cut it and put it on the plate .

They learn hot to copy the words from the paper to the computer and write it in right way in the computer room. After they return to the class and study math by knowing the fraction by using pizza picture. also they learn how to separate the tradition dress and the modern dress by putting pictures and select them. finally they learn how to count the money and know which type is it.

They do again fruit salad and practice more how to cut and put it on the plate, and teach them how to use knife and forks . also their name , color and size. also they learn how to know the price when they go grocery and how much kilo's they need and the price for each kilogram . after they eat they learn about the united Arab Emirates and the seven cities and their names, the name of the presidents .

on the sixth day, some student cant see and hear , they teach him how to use laptop and practice on in by writing words by using special letters to know them and write it down. also some students learning how to read by reading stories and books , or their names. some students make flags and prepare for the national day.

On the fifth day in the future center, they learn how to make fruit salad , first of all they must know what kind of fruits it is, and the different colors of fruits. also the name of the fruits. after they learn how to cut the fruits with knife and but it in the plate by using forks.

On the fourth day, they do a lot of new things like an exercise by choosing the correct picture and the word of the picture and put them in the right place. Also some of them use computers to know how to use it and some of them choose stories they like it and read it. Also they learn new vocabs and sentences. Also they collect rubbers in different colors and they do bracelet from it .

On the third day of us in the future center , the students learn about the fllowers and the name of the important parts of the flower. Then they go outside to play and change their rotain by running in the garden and playing swing  and sleigh. Also they make competitions like running, throwing the ball and catching each other . After they play, they arrangement the plants and watering it . later they go inside to use wax in doing in different design .

On the second day at future center, we do a lot of new things like punch the nail with a hammer to a big wood, also how they turn the bolt by using screw into the wood. They learn how to memorize colors by using kinds of different colors on pens and put them in separate. Others use Clothes hangers to memorize colors. Others are doing Almspah, by collecting the granules of the mspah and put them in a thread to make mspah. Also some students collect a lot of plastic cups and put them together in a circle to make a decoration for the light upstairs. Last, they give them an exercise a paper with their names and they must know their name by coloring it.

We went to the Future center, and it is our first day as group for volunteer. We enter the center and they welcome us in kindly way. First, we write our name at the reception, so we can entry inside the center, after that we get our volunteer card and each one of us enter a class , the special need likes us, because they saw us in first time and they were happy . I meet Mr. Atef he was the teacher and his assistance Mahboob. They we studying about cookery activity, and how to make a food or snake, how to eat in a good way, and the tools they need to make it. Then each of them wash the vegetables and others cut the bread and others wash the plates and knife. Then after we move to the physical room, that room improve their skills by doing much kind of activities. Yes, they are special need people, but they are very smart than normal people. In addition, they respect the time and the people. They love us how we talk to them and happy we sit beside them.
